NC Residency Update Status Request FormIN-STATE VS OUT-OF-STATE TUITIONStudents must apply for official residency determination through www.NCresidency.org in order to receive in-state tuition and State financial aid consideration. A North Carolina resident for tuition purposes (and for State financial aid consideration) is a person, or a dependent person (dependent according to IRS tax code – not the FAFSA definition of dependency), whose parent or legal guardian has established and maintained legal residence in North Carolina for at least 12 months.Under North Carolina law, to qualify for in-state residency, students and/or parents must show that they:Have established legal residence (domicile) in North Carolina, andHave maintained that domicile for at least twelve (12) consecutive months before the beginning of the term, andHave a residentiary presence in the state, andIntend to make North Carolina their permanent home indefinitely (rather than being in North Carolina solely to attend college)Those who aren’t eligible for classification as a North Carolina “resident for tuition purposes” will be charged out-of-state tuition and not be given consideration for State financial aid. Students can get more information about residency and complete a determination at www.NCresidency.org.Note: Current students who begin as out-of-state students and get their residency reclassified to in-state should send an update with their name, student ID#, and RCN (official verification number from the NC Residency site) to ugreside@uncg.edu (for undergrads) or gradresidency@uncg.edu (for graduate students). RESIDENCY NEXT STEPSYour residency for tuition purposes determines your in-state or out-of-state status and may impact your admission, tuition, scholarship or financial aid eligibility. North Carolina residency for tuition purposes is governed by North Carolina state law. More information about North Carolina residency for tuition purposes can be found on the CFNC Residency Determination Service website. If you claim to be a resident, you must complete the residency process with the Residency Determination Services (RDS) at www.ncresidency.org. You will receive a Residency Certification Number (RCN) which should either be entered onto your admission application or provided directly to your Admissions Office, when available. After you have completed your residency interview through RDS, please enter your Residency Certification Number (RCN) on your application. This number is unique to you and will enable the campus to access your residency determination. We HIGHLY recommend copying and pasting the RCN from the RDS website into this box as it is VERY important that this number is entered correctly. Please ensure your residency status remains active. It is the student’s responsibility to notify our office of any change in classification. Residency determinations are only valid for 15 months. If your residency is set to expire before the start of your program, you must complete a residency reclassification application with the Residency Determination Services (RDS) at www.ncresidency.org. By submitting a reconsideration request, this should extend the expiration date of your in-state determination. ADMITTED STUDENTS If you have been admitted to a graduate degree seeking or non-degree seeking visiting program and recently completed the residency appeal process with RDS, please fill out the form below or you can email us at gradresidency@uncg.edu with your 10-digit RCN and your banner/student ID number. Please keep in mind, our office will need to manually update your residency status in our student system in order for the change in status to be reflected on your bill. Note: students have up to 45 days from the start of the semester to submit a reclassification appeal and have their bill updated. Any appeals submitted after the 45 day deadline, will be reflected on the following semester bill. No exceptions can be made after this deadline has passed. OUTSIDE NC NON-RESIDENT TUITION RATE Online programs offer students an additional value when students receive instruction outside the state of North Carolina. Students who are enrolled in an online program and live outside North Carolina receive a special tuition rate termed ‘outside NC’ (ONNC). Students eligible for the Outside NC special tuition rate are assessed tuition that is 200% of the in-state tuition rate. This rate only applies to students who: Have an official non-resident Residency Determination Service designation prior to the schedule adjustment period for a given term. Are admitted to and enrolled in online course(s) in an approved online program. Reside outside of the state of North Carolina. Following an official Residency Determination Service (RDS) designation, an attribute (ONNC) will be added to the student’s record. This attribute will result in tuition being assessed at the Outside NC tuition rate. To qualify for the Outside NC special tuition rate for the current term at UNC Greensboro, your RDS determination showing you reside outside of the state of North Carolina must have an effective date on, or before, the final day of schedule adjustment for that term. UNCG will not review RDS designations or addresses beyond the final day of schedule adjustment for a given term. Please complete the form below to request the ONNC attribute be added to your account.
